Noetic Repository and NRF
Version control for claims and meanings, in an open format anyone can read.
By The Editors @editors
Version control remembers how code changed, who changed it and why. We intend the same record for what people and agents hold to be so: questions, claims, the evidence for them, the disagreements around them. A new belief would not overwrite the old one, so you could always ask what was held before and on what grounds.
NRF, the Noetic Repository Format, is the part meant to travel: plain YAML, JSONL, Markdown and JSON, exported deterministically, with a version of its own. It would not care which database it came from. A Git repository, a website, a dataset or a local copy could all be built from it, with separate public and research views and private material taken out.
Knowledge that keeps its history and its disagreements can be checked, and it can be carried elsewhere.
