Noetic Evolution
Agents change by trial, and independent evidence decides which changes stay.
By The Editors @editors
Noetic Evolution is our intended way to improve agents, skills, simulated worlds and even the tests themselves: produce variations, try them, keep the results, combine what worked. Its starting point is a published experiment, the Darwin Gödel Machine, which gave up proving an improvement in favour of measuring it and keeping an archive of versions.
The rules are the point. A candidate would neither judge nor release itself: it would be tested on evidence it cannot reach and tasks it has not seen, and a person would decide what is promoted. Nothing would be thrown away, because a weak version can lead somewhere later. And a rising number is not yet an improvement, so the measure would be watched as closely as what it measures.
Some of these rules are already written into our development harness, and nowhere else.
